Tchaikovsky Symphony No6 Pathétique

Project type

Classical Concert

Date

15/02/2025

Location

The Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow

Role

Studio Assistant (Placement)

This is my third live concert working with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra's audio team and what an incredible opportunity to be a part of! Located at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, the setup, concert and de-rig spanned around 12 hours, beginning at midday. The main crux of the setup was getting the microphones ready for recording. The RSNO make use of a cattle grid rafter setup high above their stage and we were tasked with slinging microphones down around 7-8 feet above the stage in the form of a Decca Tree array to capture the first and second violins as well as the cello, two outrigger microphones and an ORTF pair above the audience to capture the hall ambience, we had contimplaced slinging a Hamasaki Square but this idea never came to fruition. After setting up the stage microphones, we went to the new control room to set gains and prepare for rehearsal and the full concert. Following the conclusion of the concert we ensured that we packed away all of the equipment we set up earlier that day to finish just before midnight.
