'Billie Jean' Cover Track

Project Type

Studio Production

Date

March '24 - May '24

Role

Producer, Engineer

Location

Fife College

This has been by far one of the most enjoyable projects I have done yet! As the main producer for this project, I was responsible for overseeing the production of a cover track, which would be covering the iconic "Billie Jean" track by Michael Jackson. I recruited the help of the incredible local band No Alibi who I have worked with before. To help with workload, I was initially meant to have an engineer to give me more time working with the band directly however due to scheduling issues I had to take on the role instead. I wanted to emulate production techniques which were used on the original track by Quincy Jones and Bruce Swedien. I used techniques like recording onto tape and using cardboard tubes to record vocals. I also implemented certain percussion instruments like the cabasa into my mix. The resulting cover track became a rock, disco-pop blend of "Billie Jean". Visit my blog post which goes into more detail about the process towards this project!

"This is our third time working alongside Cameron, his drive and dedication towards music and production are always apparent when we work together. There has never been a dull moment in the studio and we are always over the moon with the results. Looking forward to working once again in future! - Gavin Mould, Lead Guitarist & Backup Vocalist
